Maddys Tube Weaning Journey
21 April 2015Hi All here is Maddys journey through her tube weaning. Maddys tube was taken out after one day by the weaning specialist from Germany. Maddys tube feedings were slightly reduced a week prior to him arriving. Days 2 - 5 were really tough for us all, Maddy had to learn the connection between hunger and food. We had a lot of sleepless nights and some crying and pushing food away during those days. Then on Day 7 Maddy chest was checked out to make sure it was all nice and clear, which it was. But we found out she was carrying a unrine infection also teething. For a few days it was a struggle to get her to take fluid, so we had to make sure she had plenty of wet nappies. Luckily she was eating fruit puree which helped with the hydration. We are now at Day 13 without a tube and Maddy is eating a variety of foods and drinking water and baby fruit juice. It was a decision to stop her formula as the formula she was on tasted absolutely terrible and would mean she needed the tube for another few months. We just have to make sure she has a balanced diet, she loves her yogurt and custard!! oh and ice cream!. The specialist goes back to Germany tomorrow, he has been absolutely amazing with Maddy. It hasnt been an easy process and we still have things to work on with Maddy but the good news is the tube is gone. Thank you so much to every single one of you that have supported us, we couldnt have done it without our friends and family. Yay Maddy will be able to enjoy her 1st birthday cake in just a few months!!!
