Make A Splash! aims to raise $80,000 to heat Te Huruhi Pool to extend its use from 3 to 6 months each year, until a new pool is built.
Auckland
We're excited to launch a campaign to raise $80,000 by 30th September 2018 to buy and install heaters, pool covers and CCTV cameras at Te Huruhi pool, so that our community has access to a warm water pool from October to April each year for at least the next three years. That's less than $10 per island resident.
The Pool Society will kick off the campaign with $20,000 we have raised through a number of events and activities. Partners and sponsors will add their contributions to the coffers in the coming weeks. Our Patrons Sir Graham & Lady Raewyn Henry will be hosting an auction function at The Batch Winery on 31st August to help us hit our target faster! The Make A Splash! Campaign is being supported by Te Huruhi and Waiheke Primary Schools, as well as other community organisations, and our campaign sponsor Fullers.
We're asking individuals, families, friends, and local businesses to donate to help raise funds fast. It's quick and simple to pledge your support. You choose how much. We thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
Why Make A Splash?
Waiheke Pool Society is committed to ensuring access to aquatic facilities for as many of the community as possible. A new community pool is at least 3 years away and is subject to the Local Board deciding to go ahead and build following its current feasibility study. The Pool Society has ring-fenced the $100,000 previously raised as required by past committees so it is used once the new pool is built. In the interim, we need to make the most of what is available now - the Te Huruhi pool - and make it a win-win situation for the majority of people wanting easy, regular access to a heated pool facility.
A successful campaign will mean the heated pool will be available from October 2018 and will benefit both schoolchildren and the wider community. Primary school children will gain greater confidence in the water and be able to sustain their attempt to swim 200m by the end of the programme. The wider community will have more access outside of school hours and over weekends. The Pool Society will manage a schedule that includes swim squad training, aquafit sessions, or rehabilitation programmes. These programme offerings will run alongside the current discounted Tepid Baths lessons that the Society manages year-round.
Waiheke Pool Society aims to get the Waiheke population swimming through fundraising for a heated pool, as well as managing discounted travel and swim lesson fees for programmes at Tepid Baths.
Funds will purchase heaters and thermal covers to keep the pool warm at a consistent 28 degrees from October to April each year. CCTV cameras will be installed for safety and security. Any surplus will contribute towards operating costs for future years.
