There have been 668 Suicides in New Zealand in the last year alone. So, I am walking 668km from Raglan to Kapowairua, starting 25th Sep ❤

FUNDRAISING FOR LIFELINE

This hikoi is to raise awareness and funds for Lifeline. Lifeline receives more than 10,000 calls a month and of these calls 5-6 a day are high risk calls where suicide is imminent and now receive no government funding and can’t keep up with demand. So, I have set up a Give-a-Little page so please share, donate and click *going* to this event to follow my journey ❤

In addition, Hoodies, T-Shirts and Framed Prints with the Mana Whenua Hikoi logo (cover photo) will be up for sale and all profits will be going to Lifeline.

MANA WHENUA KAUPAPA

The kaupapa for this semester at Uni is Mana Whenua - and what this means to you. I took the perspective that the land has the ability to give and receive strength.

Over this past year I feel I have lost some of my own mana therefore throughout this journey, I hope to reclaim it.

I have always been very interested in traditional ways of healing and I believe that these are the solutions to our contemporary problems. Eva Rickard has been an inspiration throughout my planning of this hikoi and this is why I am walking from Raglan to Kapowairua. This is a tribute to the way Matakite were able to get their land in Raglan returned as a result of their Hikoi from Kapowairua to Raglan. So, just like tupuna did hikoi to reclaim land, I am to reclaim strength ❤

I will be carrying a Ko (Maori traditional gardening tool) up with me on my journey and will be planting Kawakawa seeds whereever I have blessing to. I will also be practicing romiromi - so if you know someone in need along the way hit me up - romiromi or a seed - I have 100 seeds and endless supply of Io to facilitate healing.

The painting of the Ko will be auctioned ❤

All profits will go to Lifeline ❤
