Maanaki Farm Sanctuary helps care for animals that have nowhere else to go.
Taranaki
Our sanctuary is our home, our passion and, most days, our little bit of chaos. 😅
We’ve raised bottle babies from the very beginning, cared for animals who were unwanted or overlooked, and watched little personalities emerge in animals who were once simply seen as a number or a product. We’ve also experienced the heartbreak that comes with sanctuary knowing that sometimes, despite everything we do, we can’t save them all.
Our animals aren't just residents here. We know their personalities, their quirks, their favourite foods and the ridiculous things they get up to. We know who will follow us around the paddock, who thinks they own the place, who needs a little extra reassurance and who will absolutely climb on something they shouldn't.
A lot of our animals come from the farming system including babies who were never considered valuable because they weren't needed for production. To us, their lives aren't disposable. They are individuals with their own personalities, relationships and capacity to experience joy, affection, pain and fear.
Manaaki is a te reo Māori word meaning to care for, support, protect, show kindness and hospitality toward others.
That's why we created Manaaki Farm Sanctuary.
