Mandi Kingsbury's MS is giving her the biggest fight of her life after a severe attack has paralysed her and she needs our help.
Christchurch, Canterbury
Those of you who know talented stylist and super person Mandi Kingsbury may or may not know that she has MS.
Mandi has lived with MS for most of her adult life and hasn’t let it stop her live life to the full though her MS is now giving her the biggest fight of her life and she needs our help.
Just over two months ago Mandi was admitted to hospital in Dubai after a relapse that left her mobility badly impaired. A follow-up severe MS attack has now left her completely paralysed. She cannot eat, drink or speak. Is being fed and hydrated through a tube and is on multiple medications.
Although Mandi can't respond, she can hear, see, and understand everything around her. It is like she is imprisoned in her own body which is very distressing for her and those around her.
This week Mandi was repatriated back home to New Zealand to continue the next crucial part of her medical journey.
Mandi wasn’t insured due to her pre-existing condition, which also meant her medical costs in Dubai have spiralled out of control. Eg, coming home required buying 11 seats on an Airbus A380 for her stretcher and support team.
This is why we need help and have set up this GiveALittle page to support Mandi, her family and partner Gerry to help them continue to support her.
Mandi has arrived in Auckland and will soon be transferred to Christchurch to be near her family and undergo extensive rehab.
We're still hoping for a miracle and continue to bathe Mandi in love. Thanking you for your love and support.
Carolyn is a long-time friend of Mandi and has set up this page with the blessing of Mandi’s partner Gerry and her family.
If we don't manage to raise the full amount here, any money raised will still be used to pay for medical expenses already incurred and be paid to Mandi’s partner Gerry and her family as they continue to care for Mandi and pursue all available treatment options.
Farewell Mandi 8 September 2024
It is with a heavy heart to share the news that Mandi has passed away. She died peacefully on Saturday 7 September surrounded by her family and partner Gerry. To use Gerry's words, "She has now begun her next creative chapter, crafting her heavenly art alongside the angels". Rest in peace beautiful Mandi
