With the support of our community, Manurewa Marae has opened its doors to homeless whanau to provide a warm safe place to stay.
Auckland
Whakapiki Ora is our communities response to provide a warm safe place to stay for homeless whanau. Following the leadership of Te Puea Marae, Manurewa Marae continues its legacy as an extention of aroha and manaaki to all whanau/ families.
With many of whanau struggling and homeless during the cold season, we are providing overnight shelter as well as short term accomodation over the cold winter season.
As a busy community marae we have a number of wrap around services being provided alongside large number of volunteers and community groups and other organisations assisting.
The Whakapiki Ora service will run from mid August to the end of October at this stage. Whanau will be provided with shelter, meals, clothes and a care package. All funds raised will go directly towards supporting the Marae in running the Whakapiki Ora service.
Nga mihi mahana kia koutou!
Manurewa Marae was originally initiated by the vision and passion of a handful of whanau living in Manurewa, who wanted a marae to support Tangihana and ensure that Maori Tikanga, Kawa and heritage were maintained.
The marae has now grown with the community into a beautiful safe haven, where whanau, organisations and people of all cultures can come and learn in a vibrant and sacred setting.
Mauri Ora!
A busy community based Marae that provides a large number of youth, health, education and whanau ora services and activities to all whanau/families under a kaupapa Maori framework.
With a strong history within the community, Manurewa Marae has worked collaboratively with a large number of organisations in South Auckland and across the wider region.
