Marmaduke, the little white fluffy brat.

I picked Marmaduke up from Massey Vets this afternoon and after a very uneventful trip home, he is now comfortable in his new jail cell where he will complete 6-8 weeks of confinement. First thing he did after I put him in there was to stagger down and use his litter tray. It seems such a little thing until you consider that a couple of days ago he couldn't walk at all so being able to walk from one end of the crate to the other is a huge relief. He will have heat packs and physio twice a day to help him build up strength is his back end until he is able to walk properly and run again. Time now for him to rest and rehabilitate.

  • **Update from Massey Vets**

      21 January 2023

OMG I never thought I would be so glad to hear that my cat has pooped on his own but this is a major milestone and shows that his surgery was a success. Still on serious pain meds and is responding to his physio well. Apparently he has been his usual smoochy self and is winning over hearts down at Massey (why does that not surprise me!). So looking forward to picking him up tomorrow although I know it will be a very long haul of crate rest and physio before he will be 100% again.

  • **Marmaduke update**

      20 January 2023

His catheter has been removed and he is managing to go to the toilet on his own which is a huge relief. He is unsteady on his feet which is to be expected after having his pelvis pinned and the amount of painkillers he is on BUT he is on the mend and the prognosis looks good according to the vet. Plan at the moment is for him to be home on Sunday afternoon.

I picked Marmaduke up from Taranaki Vet Services in Hawera this morning and drove him down to the amazing team at Massey University Vets where he was admitted at 10am. He went in and had two screws inserted in his hips to stabilise his pelvis and came through surgery well. Vets are hopeful for a full recovery after LOTS of crate rest. Photo taken during admission.
