Get Matt ('Yakcall' on the YF forums) to Sydney for the FFDU Awards night - he's been nominated as Football Supporter of the year!
Wellington
Matt Weldon-Smith has been nominated for and now is a finalist in this year's Football Fans Down Under Awards (see http://ffduawards.com.au/) in the "Football Supporter of the Year" category.
This is for his efforts organising #FeverDreams - the initiative that has raised $4000 and sends families who are staying at Ronald McDonald House while their children are treated for cancer to Phoenix Home Games, with Yellow Fever scarves, food and beverage vouchers and passes to the Phoenix Lounge.
The initiative gives families facing something awful that we all hope we never have to face a night off from the stress and worry where they can go out to a football match and just enjoy themselves - all paid for by the Yellow Fever. The photos of smiling kids and their families and the letters and emails of appreciation have really touched our hearts.
Matt and his wife are expecting their first child and consequently he can't justify the expense of flying to Sydney for the awards night. But the Yellow fever think that what he has done with #FeverDreams is pretty special and we think he's a bloody good chance of winning Football Supporter of the Year.
Therefore we think we need to make sure he is there for the awards night.
We want to buy his airfares, accommodation and ticket to the awards night and we are asking Phoenix fans to rally around and chip in so we can send him there to represent us all.
I nominated Matt for Football Supporter of the year and helped him get #FeverDreams started. I am organising his trip to the awards night dinner.
