The Mayoral Flood Appeal addresses the needs of individuals and families through the recovery phase following the April 2018 flood event.

Bay of Plenty

On Sunday 29 April 2018, a total of 123.6mm of rain fell in the Rotorua district resulting in surface and property flooding, sewage backflow and road slips.

Of significance, the Ngongotahā Stream overflowed its banks resulting in a lot of local residents having to evacuate their homes.

Many communities across the district have been affected in some way including Rerewhakaaitu, Tarawera, Reporoa and central Rotorua which have been impacted by flooding.

It is important help and support is available to people who have been affected by this severe weather event. Money raised through this appeal will be transferred to the Mayoral Manaakitanga Relief Fund that people, who have been affected, can apply for.

If you or someone you know has been affected please contact 07 348 4199 or 0800 020 001.

Use of funds

Work to establish the terms of reference and criteria for applicants to receive the fund is currently underway and Council's Civil Defence Welfare team is continuing to speak with affected residents to assess their needs.
