Help needed for hospital ICU bills - Please help Melolini heal and get home to NZ

Hi my name is Mele Pahulu.

My mother came to Italy (where I currently live) for a vacation and ended up being taken into emergency care at the hospital. She was sent to the intensive care unit. She’s diabetic and had an infection in her leg that spread to her bloodstream. It essentially took over her body and she went into septic shock and organ failure (affecting her heart and kidneys mostly).

She had to be resuscitated twice with her heart. They stabilised her with antibiotics and she slowly got better but not fully recovered.

She was in critical condition for a month in ICU. She had chemical surgery on her heart and also surgery her leg that got infected. She was stable and moved into a ward for 1 month to wait on her leg to heal.

Unfortunately, the tissue and nerves in her leg were damaged so in the end the decision was made to amputate her leg. She recently had the surgery and was sent back into ICU. She is currently recovering there only to be treated again for another infection in her leg that they have found again and also her kidneys.

She is currently in a weak state and I don’t know when she will be out of hospital. Her insurance is only a death or terminal illness policy so they cannot help her. With no other insurance we don’t know how much her medical bill will be after all her treatments.

Our family is far away and not having much support is very hard. I just hope she’ll get better and get back to being healthy.
