Mike Grylls Bucket List

  • Mikes Treatment

It has been an absolute whirlwind since we got home with testing etc. Mike and I will be going down to Auckland tomorrow to start treatment, with his first round of chemotherapy on Tuesday in conjunction with the trial medication. Unfortunately when Mike was down there last week getting CT scans etc we found out that Mikes tumours have doubled in size from the original size 8weeks ago.😢 Mike is still wanting to go ahead with treatment so hopefully it will slow down the growth. I’m always the optimistic one and crossing fingers that it’s stops it in its tracks. We will update again after he has had a couple of rounds to see if it is working. He will be having chemotherapy every 3 weeks from Tues so we have a rough ride ahead of us at this stage.

Our prayers are with you all. I will keep my fingers crossed in hopes that the treatment will at least extend Mike's life.

Mike has started his Bucket list, we have been touring around the South Island for 2 weeks where Mike has been able to touch snow, see parts of NZ that he has never experienced, Bungy Jump, and generally do things that he never dreamed possible. We have met some amazing people and stayed in some of the most beautiful places. Today we head home, I will be going back to work and Mike will begin testing to see if he is eligible for a Trial that is currently being run in NZ. It is called A Dreamer Trial. Once he has done the eligibility test if he is a candidate they will remove cells from his body where they will then send them to USA and genetically modify his immune (T cells) to super robocop style cells that they put back into his body where they then recognise the cancer as a foreign invader and hopefully attack it. This will not cure the mesothelioma but it may prolong his expectancy. I’m conjunction with chemotherapy he may get 12-18 months. Fingers crossed.
