Wee blip but back on track!

27 September 2026

Mike, his dad and Patrick attempted a wee venture in the caravan to Tekapo to see if Mr Patrick could catch a fish - which did not happen!

The trip go caught a little short as Mike experienced a focal seizure - which is a seizure that is localised in an area. This time it mainly affected Mikes arm and stomach.

After a night in Christchurch hospital, they have told us Mike has swelling around all the tumours in his brain which has put a bit of pressure there.

He is home, fine and doing well. He is back on some medications to help with swelling and his seizure medications have been increased.

We are calling this a blip!

We have one more week until Mike has his second round of Enhertu. He has managed the first round relatively well (swelling was not related!)

First Treatment done :)

We wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who has shared and donated already.

On Tuesday after a whirlwind Monday, Mike started his first infusion of Enhertu.

Normally it should only take 45 minutes max, but the first round is always longer to make sure he isn't have a reaction.

So far, so good. Mike's not experiencing any nausea (yet, hopefully that remains) and isn't too fatigued. It is early days in the cycle and he is on meds to help with that for a few days!

At this point , we are just grateful to start treatment.

This is a 3 weekly infusion, and we will have 3 rounds before any scans are done to see if is shrinks or stablises things.

Thank you again, and though we haven't messaged you all individually we are grateful for everything.

One year of Cancer today

Today is such a monumental day in history, for our little family it also became a life changing day this time last year. It’s hard to believe how much has happened in just one year.

A huge thank you to everyone who has donated to Mike’s Givealittle, shared our story, sent messages, checked in on us or simply kept us in your thoughts or your own stories of this awful disease. We are incredibly grateful.

And a special thank you to Chris Lynch for taking the time to share Mike’s story and shine a light on the reality of unfunded cancer treatments in New Zealand. There are so many people and families facing impossible decisions when a treatment that may offer more time isn’t funded here, and we hope Mike’s journey helps bring more awareness to this issue.

Right now, we’re waiting on the results of tests done this week to make sure everything is in place for Mike to start Enhertu.

We have celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary this last week as well as Father’s Day and we feel very lucky to be able to celebrate these moments.

One year on, we’re still here, still fighting, and incredibly grateful to everyone who is walking alongside us.

Thank you!

We are completely blown away.

Thank you so much to every person who has donated, shared our page, sent us a message or supported us in any way. We honestly cannot put into words how much it means to our family. Your generosity has helped give us hope during an incredibly difficult time & reminded us just how many wonderful people we have around us.

A little update on Mike—all going to plan, he should begin Enhertu in around two weeks. This is the next step in his treatment, & the support we have received is helping make options like this possible.

We know there is still a long road ahead, but for now, we are feeling incredibly grateful. Please continue to share our story. A huge part of this for us is raising awareness & hopefully shining a light on how many people don’t have access to drugs that could make a significant difference to their treatment and hopefully we can be a part changing that for future New Zealanders.
