Rowing for New Zealand at the U19 World Championships in Canada
Blenheim, Marlborough
My name is Mila van Rensburg, I am 17 years old and from Blenheim, Marlborough, the beautiful, sunny top of the south.
I am year 13 student and Manutaki (prefect) at Marlborough girls' college.
I was recently selected to row for NZ in the women's four at the U19 world championships in St Catherines, Canada from the 21st - 25th of August 2024.
This is a life changing opportunity for me, and requires extensive funds. Over my last 4 years I have been supported by Wairau rowing club, which is largely reliant on volunteer coaches and parent support. Fundraising work has been a huge part of rowing, which my parents and I have been involved with. My parents have been financially supportive up until now, however the costs to represent New Zealand at an international rowing regatta are significant.
Rowing New Zealand contributes to the cost of the campaign, however I am required to contribute a minimum of $9000 to cover the international campaign.
I will be living away from home at the Rowing New Zealand high performance centre from the 23rd of June, leaving for Canada August 4th, which adds additional travelling and living costs.
I take my academics very seriously, which limits my time to fundraise for the trip. I am applying for various local grants to assist with the costs.
I am requesting financial support from the Marlborough and wider community to assist with the costs of representing my community and country on the world stage.
Thank you,
Ngā mihi nui
