Miles in Memory 2018

$1,455 of $15,000 goal
Given by 34 generous donors in around 6 months

Main fundraiser to help support families who have lost a baby. to provide memory making items and refurbish the Sands Room

Manawatu / Whanganui

Dads are the forgotten ones when it comes to baby loss. People ask how is the mum but hardly ask how is the dad. Dads feel they have failed as their role as husband/Partner or as a Dad.

This is our 7th year doing this, so we have 7 parents who will be riding on spin bikes for 54 hours at the Home show in Palmerston North on the 20th to 22nd of July.

Miles in Memory is a way that Dads can do something for their baby and their family. It is a to promote that it is ok to talk about baby loss and Dads grieve too. Miles in Memory is the main fundraiser for Sands Manawatu for the year and this year we are trying to raise funds to redo the Sands room up at Palmerston North Hospital. This is like a motel unit inside the hospital where the family can come together whilst the mum has to stay in the hospital. It has a main bedroom and a kitchen/dining room as well. Most things in this room have gone past its use by date and so we need to redecorate and refurbish it.

About us

Sands Manawatu-Horowhenua is a parent run group support families, throughout the region, who have experienced the death of a baby and/or child at any age or gestation. All supporters are also bereaved parents. We offer empathy and understanding. We are not counsellors but rather offer the opportunity to share experiences, talk and listen.

Your generous donations allows us to support bereaved whānau/families create precious memories with items such as inkless prints, memory boxes, manaaki mats, coffins and castings. We aim to do this with no cost to families and your support is hugely appreciated xx

Use of funds

To buy a new bigger bed, dining table, other furnishings and new kitchen appliance for the Sands Room all surplus funds will be used to buy memory boxes and items to give to families to help in their grief.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
