Mobile Community Hub Caravan, custom-built to respond to emergencies across Tasman, including fire, flood & earthquake.

$345 of $50,000 goal
Given by 8 generous donors in 11 weeks

We need a mobile community hub caravan in Tasman for use in emergencies and safety education, as well as a mobile community facility.

Tasman

Recent natural disasters causing widespread flooding, land slips, and large rural fires, have seen hundreds of people across the top of the South Island displaced from their homes, some of them permanently. These events have affected many people and tested community resilience.

Having a purpose-built, mobile and visible connection base in the Tasman district enables people to seek direct help and support.

Working with FENZ community response teams, Rotary has already launched two mobile community hub caravans for Nelson and Marlborough to bolster community resilience.

Led by Whakatū Rotary in Nelson, with pledges from Richmond and Motueka Rotary clubs, we are fundraising to purchase a mobile community hub caravan for placement in the Tasman district. We have raised over $80,000 and are committed to raising $135,000 for the unit. It is fully self-contained to operate in emergencies, with communication equipment, meeting room, marquee, BBQ plate, tables, chairs, and basic kitchen facilities for volunteers to prepare food and hot drinks.

The caravan can quickly be set to give immediate support to those affected and to provide a hub for the distribution of real-time information from support agencies. At other times, the caravan may be used by other community organisations, and FENZ to educate and promote fire and emergency safety.

Please help us to make this project a reality and better help Tasman communities in times of emergency.

About us

We are based in Nelson, New Zealand, supporting local & international projects. As part of Rotary International, Whakatū Rotary members volunteer their time and skills to the community, advancing world understanding, goodwill, & peace.

Use of funds

The purpose-built 5.5m caravan will be placed in the Tasman district as part of the FENZ vehicle fleet.

If unable to raise the funds required by 31 January 2027, all donations will be distributed by Rotary to community causes in Tasman/Nelson.

HELP US TO STRENGTHEN TASMAN COMMUNITIES IN TIMES OF EMERGENCY  24 June 2026

We've been busy fundraising and can reduce our fundraising goal by $10,000! The closing date has been extended to help us to reach our goal of $50,000. Please donate now to help us get there!

New photos show Whakatū Rotarians who were joined by friends from Rotary Club of Motueka to rattle the collection buckets and spread the word about the caravans, which are fully self-sufficient and can be rolled out quickly to support communities in times of emergencies, such as natural disasters.

We’re talking with possible sponsors and funders but we would appreciate any donation you can make to get us over the line so we can buy the third mobile community hub caravan in the Top of the South Island | Te Tau Ihu.

Thank you!

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
