Molly's U.S.A Student Exchange

My name is Molly Boult. I am 17 years old and am currently attending High School. I have recently applied and been accepted to take part in a 10 month AFS student exchange to America in August 2015. This exchange is something I have always wanted to do because I would love to experience life in another culture and be able to share some of our culture with others. Throughout my life I have lived in both the North and South island and have travelled and experienced lots of different places within New Zealand. I believe this has given me a great deal of different information about our country and culture to share with people overseas. During this exchange I will be living with a family in my host country and participating in their everyday lives including attending a local high school as a year 14 student. This exchange however comes at quite a cost of approximately $20,000. Although my family will help me in every way possible, most of this money will have to be raised through private fundraising, grants and scholarships. Some of the ways I have begun to fundraise include a Quiz night at the local hall, hot lunches at school, school discos, cake stands, raffles and a music review evening at the Mussel Inn, featuring the school band that I am a singer in. Although we have many fundraising events planned this is a large amount of money to have to raise and as we live in a small remote rural community, without the help of scholarships and grants I will not be able to afford this exchange. I work hard in everything that I do both at school and in life in general. I have organised several charity fundraising events at school including the world vision 40 hour Famine for three years in a row. I like to give back to the community and have been involved with my mum in volunteering, maintaining and fundraising for our local hall and community Rockville pool.
