Mongol Derby 2013 Ride To Help Save The World

  • Thankyou to all

      19 December 2013

As the end of the year draws to a close I would like to thank each and everyone of you who helped me do the Mongol Derby. While I had to do the race alone, getting there and reaching my fundraising goals was a team effort. All of you friends, family, family I haven't met and complete strangers helped make it possible. Not only with your donations, but also with messages of support and encouragement. It was so humbling to know you were all sharing in the adventure and wanted me to succeed. This meant the world to me, as to begin with I thought no one would care or be interested in one little girl riding horses across Mongolia. You all proved me wrong and made it an even better than I could have imagined Basically I want to say thankyou for being part of my team! The feed back since coming home has been amazing and positive, and I have decided to build on this. I want to inspire people to go out and do what many think is impossible to follow your dreams, to do something that terrifies you, and to push yourself past the limits. I want to show especially that young women are capable of so much more than what we see on reality TV and I hope I can encourage future generations to succeed. With this I'm launching a website please check it out and follow me by email, I'd love to keep you all up to date on my future plans and adventures. The Mongol Derby was just the beginning... Pease follow the link below and check it out http://chloephillipsharris.com/ Merry Christmas and thankyou for helping me achieve my dream

  • I finished the race

      20 August 2013

First of all thank you to everyone for your wonderful messages of support and donations. It has been incredibly humbling and such a lovely feeling to get so much encouragement from people I know and also people I've never met wo have chosen to support me and the charities I'm raising money for. I finished the Mongol Derby in 7 and a half days, faster than last years professional jockeys won it in. I finished fifth. It was the hardest most exhilarating and challenging thing I've done in my entire life, and I can safely say I gave it everything I had and more. I rode over 500km on my own without another rider in sight. I got sick and had to have IV fluids, got chased by wild dogs, crossed mountains, deserts and grassland and spent a bit of time stuck in swamps. I rode 26 different horses, camped alone with nomads and had the adventure of a lifetime. In the moments I was down, it made a huge difference to know there was people at home watching and supporting and it truly did keep me going. Thankyou all again for your support. I still have a few weeks left to fundraise and look forward to doing a series of talks when I'm back in New Zealand. More updates to follow Cheers Chloe

      1 August 2013

WOHOOO finally in Mongolia, thanks to everyone for all the donation and message of support. It was a two day train from china to get here, but incredibly beautiful landscape. So exciting to see more and more horses grazing in what is truly wide open land as we crossed into Mongolia. I think this is the country for me horses and horse symbols everywhere. On the money, on the trains, statues, painting a everything is horses. I love it. Pre-race training starts tommorow I can't wait!

      22 July 2013

Whoa time flys not long to go now, on Thursday ill be getting on the plane to Mongolia, I'm incredibly excited and nervous all at once. But without the support of so many incredible people this trip definitely wouldn't be possible. I do find it so humbling how many people have been willing to help me and support my cause. I had a growing pile of rejections letters and almost gave up hope, when I walked into Pat Kennedy's Equestrian Supplies in Auckland. But Pat is amazing and within an hour I walked out with the support of Dublin Ridingwear. Pat has turned out to be an incredibly supportive person and really rallied to help me when no one else would. Thanks to her and Dublin I have the most comfortable, durable and stylish boots and chaps to ride 1000km in, as well as a brand new helmet and other bits and bobs that will make all the difference. Since then other people have been so generous and have continued to help me, but I was always be especially greatful to Pat for giving me the confidence to keep trying. If your looking for equestrian gear please check out http://www.equestriansupply.co.nz/ Thank you everyone for all the donations it goes to an amazing cause and I love reading all the messages of support it really does make a difference.

Enter details of your update here Time to get serious and really start fundraising. After a successful trip to India with Kiwi Care Team, working with horses, mules and donkeys as well as their owners, I'm exhausted but ready to start my training for Mongolia. Also time to crack ahead and get people donating to support my charities. Long hours in the saddle and in the fundraising campaign ahead. But bring on the challenge and the saddle sores, I'm ready!
