Moon Turtle is a mood journal aimed at helping young people take care of their mental health.
Auckland
Moon Turtle was created by Anna Birchall (www.annabirchall.com), as part of a university design assignment, with help from her friend Imogen Holmstead-Scott. Originally designed for young people diagnosed with bipolar disorder, it's useful for anyone who wants to manage their mental health better. Standard mood charts - regularly handed out to those who are newly diagnosed - are often sterile and clinical looking. Moon Turtle is a user-friendly journal that helps people record important day-to-day information, tracking a variety of factors, such as sleep, mood, daily commitments, goals and medication use. It also helps with noticing patterns that can lead to better or worse days. You can see more photos here; https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/moonturtle/gallery
We are currently fundraising and taking orders for our first batch of printing. We are aiming to put the order in on September 10, and to start shipping soon after. To keep costs low, our first batch will be black-and-white and stapled, but we would love to look into colour copies with stitched binding in the future. Photos of what the new black-and-white Moon Turtle will look like should be up within the week. And after discussions with a few friends, family members and psychology-people, we’ve improved Moon Turtle’s content too.
Moon Turtles (including postage to any New Zealand address) will be $10. If you'd like to pre-order a copy, please private message us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/moonturtlenz) or at moonturtlenz@gmail.com with your address details and desired number of copies. We will be in touch with payment details closer to our order date.
Like the idea but not sure you want one for yourself? Please donate to our Give-a-Little to help us provide copies to young people with tight budgets who can’t afford them.
Why Moon Turtle? Anna says, “I was sitting in a noisy bar when I told a pal that I was designing a mood journal. With a baffled look on his face, over the noise he exclaimed, 'the f*** is a moon turtle?’”
