Mother-of-three Chrissy’s battle against AS (Ankylosing Spondylitis) and the surgery she requires.

  • Chrissy has had her first surgery

Chrissy's surgery date got moved forward to Monday.

She had some complications getting the breathing tube down her throat due to the curvature of her spine, but they got there in the end. After a gruelling 10 hours+ the first part of the first surgery has been completed.

Chrissy spent the first night in ICU. Chrissy is in and out of sedation, relying on breathing apparatus' to help her while she recovers from her surgery. She is bruised and battered, in the doctor's words, "she will feel like she has been hit by a bus or freight train."

If all goes well they will be looking at taking the breathing tube out today and will require a short surgery to do this. Chrissy is strong and she in good spirits, shes in the right hands and supported by Mum Julie and fiancee Matt, who is in awe of the surgeons and nurses that are constantly looking after her well being. Massive thanks to the team at Waikato Hospital and all the love and support Chrissy and the family have been getting on her facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ChrissysASadventure/

    Here's a photo of Chrissy (pre-op) :-)

This is it folks. The surgery date has been set for Chrissy's first surgery, planned for the 15th March. Chrissy would just like to thank everyone for their overwhelming support so far.

It's been truly incredible, whether you've bought raffle tickets, got family portraits done, bought pizza's from the good folks at Domino's for Chrissy's 'dough-raiser' or donated to her Givealittle campaign, you're all truly awesome!

We're also in talks with a primetime current affairs programme to get some national exposure for Chrissy's story. Watch this space!

In the meantime, if you can continue to share Chrissy's story and this page with your friends and family that would be amazing!

Thank you all so much xo

  • We're extending Chrissy's Give a Little page

      31 December 2018

We've heard through the grapevine that Chrissy's cause might get some TV coverage in the new year, so we're extending the campaign until the end of March 2019. Chrissy may well have had her first surgery by then too. Fingers crossed we get some national tv coverage, that would be wonderful.

  • Surgery update

A huge thank you to everyone who has donated or helped with other fundraising so far. Chrissy and the family have been blown away by people's generosity and caring messages of support. You're all awesome!

Chrissy has met with the anaesthetists now, who have gone through the operation in more detail, the risks, and the expected recovery times.

Chrissy is going to get a c2-t4 spinal fusion and a c7 pedicle subtraction osteotomy. In lamens terms, they're going to fuse parts of Chrissy's spine (c2-t4) to reduce movement (to reduce the pain) and cut part of Chrissy's spine (c7) to correct her hunch. I'm squirmish just typing it!

The overall idea is to reduce the pain Chrissy feels, and increase her mobility (despite fusing a big part of her spine together).

While we don't have a date yet, the surgery is expected in the next 3-4 months.

So there's still time to donate. Please share Chrissy's story and this page. The more people who see it, the better. And keep the positive messages of support coming. They mean a lot!

Chrissy has received an appointment letter to meet with the anaesthetic team. Surgery won't be far away now. While she's understandably feeling nervous about the surgery, Chrissy is absolutely blown away by your love and support.

Please share her Give a Little page with your friends and family. Help get Chrissy's story out there.
