Multisport Tour N.Z with Jerry the bear for diabetes

During Diabetes Awareness Month (November and possibly late October) I will be embarking on a multisport tour the length of New Zealand to educate kiwi kids on what diabetes is and how adventures can help you live well with it. I will bike, kayak, raft, run, swim and use any other means of self-powered travel that might suit the terrain, stopping to talk to schools along the way and interact with the public using videos and blogs. My side kick will be an interactive teddy bear called Jerry who also has type 1 diabetes and is a great educational tool for newly diagnosed kids.

It's going to be one awesome adventure and I hope to raise a lot more awareness around diabetes in N.Z and be a positive role model to others living with chronic illness. I am currently the International Diabetes Federation Young Leader for Diabetes in N.Z and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes three years ago. This project aims to be a major awareness and education campaign for diabetes to empower positive change in people's attitudes and perceptions of the disease, especially in youth.
