Mums Recovery Journey

  • A set back - But mobile

      2 August 2017

Hi all, had another family meeting yesterday. As it turns out Mums stay @ ASRU will be a lot shorter than first thought. Mum will be there for another 6-8 weeks and likely move onto some temporary accommodation until we can find her a place and make the modifications needed. If anyone knows or has a rental property any required changes will be paid for in full and likely add value to the property. Mum has had a bed sore of late and therefore been on bed rest, so she has been unable to complete any work with the OT or physio. She is holding up well though and looking forward to her fist trip out soon. She has a little more movement in her left arm with some limited thumb movement which is great and can get herself around in motorized wheelchair so watch out :) Mum asks if you can all please pray for more movement in this arm and hand, She has accepted the fact she will never walk again but her goal is to be able to feed herself and be able to do her own make up. We thank God for the hope we have and Mum wants to express to you all her thanks for the support and prayers she is feeling very humbled by all that has happened and thankful for the support. First a big thanks goes out to the team of social workers, doctors, nurses, OT and physios who are taking great care of Mum and keeping us up to date. Today we found out ACC has approved Mums claim, a real blessing. The doctors informed us Mums injury is @ C 5-6, A (B) on the ASIA Impairment Scale from C4 = some sensory and motor preservation but it is more than likely Mum will never walk again but have some limited motor function in her arms and hands, BUT our God can raise the dead ! Please pray that our God will continue to give us all peace, strength and hope. Mums is holding up well overall but being so dependent on other would leave any of us feeling vulnerable and anxious, territory no one likes to travel. Lots of new things to learn and tears to shed as waves of this new reality set in, I am confident tho that God will continue to reveal himself among the mess and turn a crappy situation into a blessing .. in time. Blessings J and the Family

  • Food Food Food

      7 July 2017

Went to see Mum on Wednesday, she now has her feeding tube out and tucked into some sushi and miso soup, yay for Mum no more weird looking hospital soft food diet. Very early days still but Mum now has some limited movement in her left arm. We are learning to celebrating the simple things in life, the fundamentals while trying to ignore the rest of the other noise and distractions. Never seen the movie but life really can come down to three simple things, eat, pray an love. Aimee will visit on Saturday and I will have more updates and photos on Monday. Take care all. J and the family.
