This page aims to help a small independent documentary about music for psilocybin based therapy reach a global audience!
Wellington
Over the past 3 years, Abstract Bear Productions and Sutherlandsounds have created a feature-length documentary following the making of Music & the Mystical Experience; a 6-hour album recorded with 28 musicians and artists for psilocybin therapy from Aotearoa.
This film captures Michael and a team of musicians, artists, therapists, and thinkers exploring the role of music in psychedelic healing, providing a template for how music can be brought to life through a ritual-based, analog recording process - grounded in both research, spirit and community.
Our documentary has just been selected for Doc Edge, New Zealand’s top documentary and Oscar qualifying festival, where the film will have its world premiere!
Submitting to international film festivals is the difference between this project making a ripple or a big splash, and unfortunately each submission costs around $150 NZD.
We’re a small, independent team - Izzy (director), Keegan (producer), and Michael (musician/producer), and balancing this project, the costs and admin alongside everyday work is a huge challenge.
Your support will help us bring this story to global audiences during a time when conversations around psychedelic therapy are rapidly opening up in Aotearoa, Australia, and the US.
If this project resonates with you, we’d love your support. Whether it’s a donation or simply sharing this page, it all helps carry this work further.
Thanks!
Our goal:
$700 → Submit to 5 international festivals (New York, Austin, Toronto, and more)
$1400 → Expand that reach to 15+ festivals worldwide
Every submission is a chance for this film, the music & the message it represents — to make a deeper impact.
