I need your help! To support my friend, single mother of four, through terminal cancer
Whangaparaoa, Auckland
Reaching out in the hope of helping my dear friend who was my brother’s partner, they found happiness together after heartbreak & loss. Sadly, my brother, Michael, passed away in 2015 aged 46 after battling cancer & she was by his side throughout.
Unbelievably, in Feb 22 Aedeen was given the devastating news that she has Stage 4B terminal cancer which has now spread to the brain. Currently undergoing chemotherapy, she maintains a positive attitude & is determined to make the most of her remaining time.
I am still reeling that Aedeen, who is a single mother, is now facing this. With her quiet strength, she overcomes hurdles that would defeat many. A dedicated teacher at Whangaparaoa College, she has worked hard to make a difference & misses being part of such a wonderful school community.
Her children (22, 20, 16, 14) are striving to cope & be the best team for her & each other. The older 2 will be taking on guardianship roles for their younger siblings, a huge commitment & responsibility.
With income now limited & without assets or security, I can only imagine the weight of this on a mother. I am in awe of the way she is handling this, with grace, guts & determination plus a sense of humour. I want to alleviate some of the weight she is carrying.
She has been humbled by the support and messages she has received. People have asked how they can help this is why I have created this page. Any help is very much appreciated - whether it be messages, prayers, sharing or donations.
Aedeen and her children have become honorary members of our family, particularly important as Aedeen’s own family are in the UK, which she left 30 years ago.
A trip to UK (health permitting) to visit her family (urgent as her mother is terminally ill). As this may not be possible, any money raised will go towards living costs, funeral expenses, & help the kids cope with life without her after she has gone.
A last thank you 3 April 2023

It is with great sadness that I must inform you all of her passing in the early hours of this morning.
