Auckland

My name is Greg and as you can see by the title Katy (my wife) and I have been hit with a big curve ball, I'm not sure if you can help us.

It is against all I consider right to be in this position,

My friend, rock, soulmate and wife has been told that she is unable to stay in New Zealand.

Our story begins in August the 6th, 2015. I am embarrassed to say, that we met through a dating site and then met in person downtown Auckland, I saw her, and at that moment I knew that this was the women I am meant to be with. She said “I have a gift for you”, she led me around the corner and showed me a rainbow, “that’s for you”.

Katy stole my heart that day and I am happy that she did. From that day, we have spent almost every day together.

There are no words that can sum up how amazing this woman is, she has made me a better father, person, more accountable, grow up and is still accepting of all my quirks.

Katy is a kind, caring and loving step-mother to my kids, who we care for full time.

Veanna 8 and Hunter 12, Veanna is my daughter by blood. Hunter is Veanna's brother, I have known him since he was 3 and have been his main father figure since then. Not only is Katy putting up with my SH#T, but she is helping me raise my kids and one being of no blood connection of mine, all I can say is this woman is amazing.

We were married in 2017, October 28th in Clarks Beach, it was a Mexican inspired wedding (Katy and I love the food, culture and people of Mexico) and it was rather amazing if I do say so myself. One of her friends brought sand from the waterfall from where Katy’s parents ashes lay and my Whānau brought sand from my home of Torere, it was a meeting of two worlds and cultures. It was so great for Katy to finally meet the rest of my Davis Whānau. Katy was welcomed and made to know that New Zealand is now her home.

Anyway, long story short, February 04 2019, Katy’s work visa was declined.

We are totally confused by this as it is the same job she had a work visa for last time. I rung Immigration and found them extremely unhelpful, just repeating the fact that she has to leave in 21 days.

The only reason we went with another working visa and not residency was because of our wedding costs and family life and we just couldn’t pay for everything all at once.

INZ did mention a section 61, but that means that Katy would be an overstayer and couldn't work here and it’s important for us to stay in good standing with New Zealand Immigration.

On Friday morning, we found out that Katy had to leave on Monday or she would be an overstayer. We were under the understanding (based on what we were told by our Advisor) that Katy would be able to stay here and still work while we put a reconsideration in for her work Visa and that her current visa would be extended. This wasn’t true.

We are now needing to pay our lawyer, flights and help with daily living until we can get my Wife back here.

As in any family, both incomes are very important and we both are full time caregivers to my kids.

This is why I am asking for help, anything you can give would be a blessing.

I’m sure there are many things I have left out and many mistakes as I’m rather emotional and terribly dyslexic..

But I wish to thank you for the time you took to read over my ramblings.

Use of funds

Funds will be used to pay lawyer fees, flight tickets, visa applications and helping in our daily life with the loss of Katy's income until we can get back on our feet.
