My Intellectually Disabled Autistic Son needs transport

Please help and intellectually disabled and autistic boy to attend school and necessary activities

Massey, Auckland

My son is intellectually disabled and autistic, I am his primary carer and as such don't earn a lot of money. Recently the transmission in my 25 year old car died and it has left me with no means to get him around. Without transport to school and other activities his world would completely shut down and destroy him emotionally and mentally. Use of ride share and taxis are not possible due to his condition as he has aggressive meltdowns which makes them unsafe. Means of funding through Government sources have either been met with massive waiting periods or a resounding no. Please help, I can't resign him to a housebound life where the few things that keep him active and engaged are gone, it will destroy him completely.

Thank you.

Use of Funds  7 July 2025

Thank you all for your kind support. Unfortunately, as we didn't get close to the target required for a car I chose to use the funds in a different way to support Daniel. This included some new clothes for him, household essentials and some of the funds went towards an overdraft debt. I am Daniel's sole carer and we live on an extremely tight week to week budget. I felt that as the funds raised were never going to cover the cost of a replacement car it would be ok to use them in a way that still supported Daniel, so I did. I can assure all of you that the money was not wasted frivolously and only went towards improving our living situation. However, I do understand this may cause some of you concern and can only ask you for your consideration and understanding. The original intention and hope was always a car, we simply didn't get there and I felt the money could still be used in an appropriate and acceptable way. Please accept my apologies if this has caused anyone any concern, that certainly was not my intention. Again, thank you all for your kind support
