Our beautiful healthy girl Myah-Jade has been through quite an ordeal of events over recent weeks.

From waking with a cough & fever – diagnosed as a simple virus so plenty of rest and fluids recommended, to profuse vomiting & diarrhea which became worse and caused for another visit to the doctor, who prescribed her with tablets to control the vomiting and pedialyte drink for hydration. Unfortunately, Myah didn’t respond well to these prescriptions and our girl was soon hospitalized with server dehydration.

Upon initial examination it was mentioned it could be appendicitis, however no follow-up was provided & she was diagnosed as having gastroenteritis. Over the next two days, Myah’s health declined sharply with constant pain and writhing being the norm and my sister and brother in-law noticed bloating in her belly, Myah being quite delirious and not thinking or acting normally. Myah’s behavior also become aggressive due to the pain with no resolution in sight. It seemed that only a warm shower could provide the much needed respite during this testing time.

The hospital contacted a bowl surgeon at Starship hospital and Myah was rushed over for examination. In a short period of time she not only had damaged kidneys but she had pneumonia, a chest infection and possibly a ruptured appendix. They kept the family on high alert and made sure Myah had around the clock care.

Myah was rushed into surgery and according to the doctors, her life depended on that surgery being performed at that time – it had gotten that bad! Her tummy was full of pus from the burst appendix and bacteria had spilled throughout her internal organs however the doctors done an amazing job to clean it up through key hole surgery. However, due to the large amount of pus in her body, there was a lot of internal damage which had caused inflammation to her organs and bowel. Focus was now on controlling her chest infection and to avoid any further abscess growth as well as restoring her lungs and kidneys.

Damage to Myah’s lungs & kidneys meant she had breathing difficulties, and in order for the kidneys to heal you need a lot of fluids pumping through the body. With pneumonia on top of this fluids caused the lungs to work over-time, meaning our poor girl’s major organs were beginning to pack in!

Myah was so sick, every major organ in her body shut down, except her heart. Doctors were quite shocked that a simple virus left unchecked could result in so much damage over so little time.

Doctors moved her into the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) so the right technology, expertise and care could be given, after spending over a week in ICU she has now been moved into a ward, however her road to recovery will take some time and she may be required at the hospital for a few more weeks yet.

To help the family & Myah on her road to recovery, we would love to set this ‘Give a little’ page up to help assist our girl on an overseas trip with her family. The likelihood of her returning to school this year are slim, which will break her & her friend’s little hearts.

Let’s all get behind this awesome initiative and help Myah’s dream holiday become a reality.

Much love & blessings
