Surgery for my mum
Nelson / Tasman
My name is Chayden Duncan ,I'm writing about my mum and why she needs your help.
Her name is Paulette Collins she is 43 years she has 3 children and 3 grandchildren and she is married to my dad,she use to love life,be energetic, happy, loved family time ,but all of this changed in july of this year.
So mum worked as a senior caregiver looking after people with stage 3 dementia she loved her job and was so passionate about it.
In july one of her residents started choking at lunchtime my mum was first to respond and started doing first aid she was doing back slaps and chest thrusts doing all she could to save his life her adrenaline was going during this time she felt her shoulder pop and burn but she kept going.
Sadly the person passed away, mums life changed from this day.
She was put of work on acc she had MRI's, ultra sound scans, xrays, she has seen drs, surgeons, and a physio.
The mri showed swelling of the bursa /tendon causing impingement, so it runs on the bone whenever she moves her arm.
She has had 2 cortisone injections put into the shoulder guided by ultrasound, none of this has given her relief, she has to live on painkillers daily which hardly help at all.
The surgeon requested she needs urgent surgery as this is only thing that will fix this problem, he will shave the bone back to give the tendon/bursa room so it's not pinched, the cost for this is $9000 ,a request was put into acc and public health but both have declined saying this could have been a pre injury or a injury that has happened over time, mum has never had any shoulder problems.
As every month has gone past mum has lost her spark, she crys alot, and has become quite negative , she cant do much without it hurting her arm , most of all she misses picking her grandchildren up for a cuddle ,and playing sports with the family.
Mum also misses her job and wants to get back there and has tried everything and done everything she could to reach that goal , but her shoulder just wont let her.
Mum just recently received a letter from her work they have decided to terminate her contract due to medical incapacity, because until she has this surgery she can not fulfill her role as a caregiver, mum was very saddened and distressed by this and it has made her shut down even more.
Please help my mum get the surgery she needs, so she can get back to the person she was before the injury.
I’m her son
