G.A.Y got taken over, we walked out, now we need a new home.
Auckland
G.A.Y was the only safe space for QTPOC and other marginalised members of the Auckland queer community, which was built the way it was by my partner, Aaron. He poured his heart, soul, blood, sweat and tears into G.A.Y, and then it was all taken away in a matter of seconds.
In our opinion, Aaron was falsely alleged of lying, theft, and incompetence, and was demoted. We decided as staff members and a community to take a stand against this and walked out of G.A.Y in protest.
This is about needing a safe space, and it needs to be run by someone who cares about every marginalised minority in our beautiful Auckland queer community. We are raising funds to help Aaron build a new home for us all where we can be our authentic selves without judgement or abuse.
We need our community to back this, so we can back the community in a new PERMANENT safe space.
Aaron is my partner of 4 years, and I have continuously seen his love for the community.
Buying resources for a new venue, bond and lease for building, renovation costs.
Safe space initiatives - update 28/7/2021 25 June 2021
If funds raised are not sufficient for the purchase of a space they will be used for creating events and productions to raise further capital which will go towards purchasing the venue. Any remaining funds will be donated to current LGBTQIA+ foundations chosen by our community.
