New Mobility Dog for Viv

  • Update for 26/10/2012

      26 October 2012

Thanks for all your emails after the ggood sortsh programme. http://tvnz.co.nz/national-news/good-sort-finn-mobility-dog-video-5129567 Your interest, support and encouragement make me feel very loved. I have received approx 20 offers to take Finn. Many have had me in tears ? caring and taking in an old dog is huge. Many are from people also with elderly Golden Retrievers, with lifestyle blocks. A WEE generalisation, but dog-lovers are good people! My choice was made easy though, when Finnfs puppy walker/trainer came forward. So he is going back to his first-ever home. Ahh, the circle of life! Ifm so pleased. I just heard today, my new dog, Levi, will join me on 3.12.12. itfs a little bitter/sweet, as Ifm sure you can imagine. Warm wishes Viv

Good news we have raised the last part of the $45,000 needed to cover the cost of getting a new mobility dog. This has come from: Quiz night $1250, Rotary $1000, GiveaLittle $990 and your generous donations given directly to me. Your support has been at times overwhelming and so encouraging for me personally to know that so many people care about me and Finn. I have met my goal and everything given from now is a bonus. I would like to be able to give a bit of money to Finnfs new owner, to cover food, medication and vet bills. Also, there will be things I will need to buy for the new dog. Thank You from Viv

Mesage from Viv: I am so very grateful for your generous donations, as well as the supportive, encouraging comments. I feel very loved. Thank you Still no news from the disability dogs people about when my new dog is coming or what it will be like. So just have to wait patiently. Check out the mobility dogs at work, on http://www.facebook.com/mobilitydogs? (so amazing; cute and clever)

Many people are asking what the new dog is like (breed/sex/colour). I still donft know and to say I am curious, is an understatement. Several months ago when the Mobility Assistant Dog Trust visited and met myself and Finn, they felt they were able to get a good idea of the type of dog that would suit. So I will let you know as soon as I find out any more.

It isn't the size of the gift that matters, but the size of the heart that gives it.

Thanks again for your big and small donations every single one is appreciated. Some of you have asked about Finn. When the time comes Viv will work hard to find a wonderful new home for Finn. Viv will make sure it is a place where he has companionship as she has always been with him and that is what he will need for his retirement.

The page has been changed from Pledge to Donate so its quicker and easier to use, you don't have to sign up or be a member. Just click Donate put in amount and credit card details and if you want to add any name and a comment afterwards. Much easier for non technical people so tell anyone who already tried and found it a bit hard. Thanks
