An affordable housing solution by Ngati Porou, for Ngati Porou.
Gisborne
Ngati Porou Whare Moe is a community housing kaupapa that is “built in Ngati Porou, by Ngati Porou, for Ngati Porou“.
Build and provide quality – “Our People Deserved The Best “ says retired Ngāti Porou Whare Moe builder, Joe McClutchie
The Kaupapa is a simple and realistic solution to help meet part of the East Coast/Tairawhiti housing problems, particularly for those whanau who are not in the market or in a position to have major building repairs or a to build a new home.
These units are warm, dry, clean, modern and built with care and attention to detail. A space that people would be proud to own.
We aim to build x1 unit per month. For more details on the build please visit our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Ngati-Porou-Whare-Moe-106308781177498
Our end goal is to find investors who can offer a 'rent-to-own' scheme at an affordable price for our people living within Ngāti Porou who cannot afford to buy the Whare Moe outright.
As of July 2020, we have done a journey seeking start up support and seeding funding from a number of agencies (Government and local) but have had very little success.
Three and a half weeks later, we have completed our fist 'deluxe unit' with support from a handful of Ngāti Porou whānau, but no agencies have walked through the gate to offer support or communicated with us (only Te Karere News - thank you, Irena).
A Give a Little Page, for Ngati Porou Whare Moe kaupapa is not intended to be there to ask for support. It has been created, to acknowledge tonight’s offers of koha and support from the public.
It has been decided that any offers of Koha, would be put direct to the Seeding and start up needs of the operation.
