“Right now, the girls at a Kenyan orphanage are sleeping in the wet common room because their dormitory roof is collapsing — help us fix it.
Taupo, Waikato
Every child deserves a safe, dry place to sleep.
But right now, the girls at EAMO Orphanage in Kenya don’t have that. Their dormitory roof is leaking so badly that the ceiling is collapsing — making it too dangerous to stay. The girls have been forced to move their bedding into the common room, where they now all sleep together on the floor.
When we visited the orphanage during our trip to Kenya, the children told us this was their biggest need. Seeing the roof falling in with our own eyes, and the girls without a proper place to sleep, was heartbreaking.
It will cost $7,000 NZD to repair the roof and make the dormitory safe again. This will give the girls back their space, their beds, and most importantly, the security every child deserves. If we raise more than this all the children would like mats on the floor, a couch and a TV so they can watch soccer :)
We are committed to returning to Kenya ourselves to oversee the work and ensure every dollar goes directly to fixing the dormitory.
Your donation, big or small, will help rebuild not just a roof — but hope, safety, and dignity for these children. Together, we can give the girls their home back.
We visited the Orphanage to drop off sports equipment, games and stationary supplies. We were shocked and saddened to see the state of the girls dormitory so are working with the Orphanage to raise money to replace.
The money will be spent taking off the old rood, fixing the timber beams that are rotting, replace the roof (overlapping it this time) along with new flashing and new gutters. We will also replace the two broken toilets that are shared between 45 girls.
