NZ Adaptive (Para) Waka Ama paddlers competing at World Sprints in Sunshine Coast 2016
Hawke's Bay
Waka Ama is an amazing sport, it allows our whanau who require an adaption of sorts so that they can compete as well as any other able-bodied person can. We now have a squad that can go and race against the best in the world at Waka Ama, or Va'a as it is called in other parts of the world. Our team members require a various range of adaptations to make this happen. Adaptive or Para teams are mixed only with a minimum of 3 women in each crew.
There is nothing more joyful or rewarding than seeing the determination and competitiveness shine out of these wonderful members of our community. My involvement is purely to get these magical people to the championships.
