We are 8 Kiwi guys under 25 selected to defend the Red Bull Youth Americas cup in Bermuda, June 2017. Be part of our journey!
Nationwide
The NZL Sailing Team won the 2013 Red Bull Youth America’s Cup and we are aiming to do the same in Bermuda this year. But it won’t be easy.
The Red Bull Youth America’s Cup mirrors the America’s Cup in so many ways. Not only will the NZL Sailing Team be racing in the AC45s used in the America’s Cup World Series, foiling catamarans that can reach speeds of up to 40 knots, and be sailed between the Louis Vuitton series and America’s Cup in Bermuda but we will also be up against 11 other teams desperate to win. Many of those teams have large corporate sponsors behind them with multi-million dollar budgets.
We’re not so lucky. We have to fund our own campaign and need $200,000 to get to Bermuda. We have some generous backers but are still a considerable way short of our target to pay for insurance, training, flights, accommodation, food and associated costs of running the boat.
The 2013 NZL Sailing Team contained some of the brightest young talents of New Zealand sailing, including Olympic and multiple world champions Peter Burling and Blair Tuke, who are key members of Emirates Team New Zealand’s 2017 America’s Cup challenge. Also on board were Guy Endean and Andy Maloney, who are also involved with Emirates Team New Zealand.
Four years on, we have similar aims. We are eight young Kiwi sailors aiming to do New Zealand proud once again. Please ‘give a little’ to help this next generation achieve their dreams.
