Two legs, two wheels and a heartbeat. OG 39ers are mountain biking from Cape to Bluff in 30 days to raise funds for the Raglan Fire Brigade.
Waikato
Kia ora, welcome to the OG 39ers Raglan Volunteer Fire Brigade Fundraiser. For those of you who do not know us we are Dirk and Mick of station 39 Raglan Volunteer Fire Brigade.
Just a quick bit of history about Dirk and myself, I joined the Raglan Volunteer Fire Brigade in 2008 and then Dirk in 2009. We first me one another through Dirk’s Raglan based bike shop now known as ‘Cyclery Raglan’ and quickly became best of mates through our shared love of bikes and ultimately our brigade.
In 2010 Dirk and I were the first members of our Brigade to tackle the ‘Firefighter Sky Tower Challenge’, then raising just over $1200 for Leukemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand which was the most money raised for the smallest team entry at the time. Fast forward to 2020 and we are yet again challenging ourselves but this time in a way that is a little closer to our hearts, on two wheels!
Dirk and I are set to take on the kiwi based cycling brevet known as ‘The Tour Aotearoa’, an unassisted 3000km mountain bike journey from Cape Reinga to the Bluff. This we are doing for ourselves, something to remind us that our inner spirits are still very much alive and our thirst for adventure should sometimes be met with a big gulp of awesome!
The point of this fund raiser is to potentially set our brigade up with some new gear. Though we do receive some government funding and we do apply for grants, after running costs these funds are not always enough to replace old worn gear or set ourselves up with new and improved equipment that can better help us support our community in emergency situations. We are keen to purchase a new folding patient back board and also new personal LED search and rescue torches for each member of the brigade.
So, if you would like to support us or our brigade in our efforts please do. If you’re unable to make a donation please feel free to share this page with friends and throw us a shout out on the Raglan Volunteer Fire Brigade Facebook page, you can also follow our progress by our GPS tracker.
Cheers from the OG 39ers!!!
The raised funds will be used for the purchase of a folding patient backboard, personal LED torches for search and rescue and to compensate loss of income for our volunteers attending long call outs.
