Give kids the gift of outdoor education!
Onamalutu, Marlborough
Ōhinemahuta Nature School is a ‘One Day School’ Forest School programme in Marlborough, designed for children aged 6-16 who thrive in hands-on, nature-based learning. Located on a private farm near Onamalutu Reserve, our school encourages child-led exploration and fosters independence in a safe, supervised natural environment.
We provide a space where children can relax, recharge, and build confidence - whether they feel overwhelmed by academic pressure, struggle in a traditional classroom, or simply love the outdoors. Our programme promotes supervised risk-taking, helping children develop autonomy and self-assurance through exciting activities like survival skills, indigenous practices, homesteading crafts, and campfire cooking.
Our wild learning curriculum integrates literacy, numeracy, and science through hands-on, experiential methods, while Māori waiata, stories, and traditional crafts help children connect with culture and heritage.
We believe every child deserves this opportunity, regardless of financial circumstances. Your donation will provide scholarships for families in need and help towards funding a shuttle service, easing transport burdens on parents and reducing environmental impact.
With your support, more children can thrive, explore, and learn in nature. Donate today and make a lasting impact!
Funds will provide scholarships for families in need and help fund a shuttle service, making nature-based learning accessible to more children.
June 2025 Update 28 June 2025
A heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you who donated to our Givealittle page. Because of your generosity, we were able to cover 50% of the fees for two tamariki to attend nature school in Term 2 — children who otherwise wouldn’t have had the opportunity to join us in the ngahere.
The remaining funds went towards the transport costs of our community van, contributing towards fuel and driver time so that more children could access our site safely and reliably each week.
We’re now in the midst of our winter hibernation — a time for rest, reflection, and planning — and already looking ahead to a cosy Term 3 starting mid-August, with fires lit and soup bubbling once again.
If you're in a position to donate again, we would be deeply grateful. Follow-up donations will help us continue offering fee assistance and transport support in Term 3 — ensuring that financial or geographic barriers don’t stand in the way of tamariki accessing nature-based learning.
Wow, thank you so much for your support!
