Help Oire Te Whanganui-a-Tara get to Te Maeva Nui 2025. Support 100 Wellington-based Cook Islands performers on their cultural journey.
Porirua, Wellington
In the heart of Wellington, a powerful movement has formed — a vibrant collective of nearly 100 performers brought together by a shared love of Cook Islands culture. From tamariki to grandparents, dancers to drummers, singers to storytellers — this group represents unity, pride, and legacy. Week by week, they gather with purpose, learning, teaching, and growing in strength as they prepare for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: to represent their community at Te Maeva Nui 2025 in Auckland.
Oire Te Whanganui-a-Tara is more than a dance group — it’s a village of cultures, identities, and generations bonded through movement and music. With guidance from a seasoned cultural practitioner and visionary leader (Te Hau Winitana), this group has blossomed into a stronghold of Cook Islands pride in Aotearoa. In October, they’ll proudly stand as the only team outside Auckland to take the Te Maeva Nui stage — showcasing Wellington’s diverse Cook Islands diaspora to the nation.
Preparing and sending such a large group comes with many costs. With humility, we invite the support of our wider whānau, friends, and community to help us raise $20,000 by August 12, 2025. Your contribution will help fund travel, accommodation, food, traditional costumes, and uniforms — everything our performers need to stand proudly and prepared in this cultural celebration.
Every donation, big or small, helps . Together, we can lift this community to new heights and carry Cook Islands culture boldly into the future.
Funds will support travel, accommodation, meals, traditional costumes, and team uniforms for up to 100 performers attending Te Maeva Nui 2025—ensuring our Wellington Cook Islands group can represent with pride, unity, and cultural integrity.
🌺 “One More Step to the Stage – Let’s Make It to Temaeva Nui!” 🌺 2 September 2025
Kia Orana to our incredible supporters!😍
We’re thrilled to share that our Cook Islands community group has officially extended our Givealittle campaign to give us one final push toward Temaeva Nui! The response so far has been humbling — your generosity, encouragement, and belief in our kaupapa have brought us closer to showcasing our culture on one of the biggest stages in the Pacific.
But we’re not quite there yet. With flights, costumes, and rehearsal costs still to cover, we’re calling on our wider whānau to help us cross the finish line. Every dollar helps us uplift our reo, our drumbeats, our stories — and ensures our performers can represent our village with pride.
If you’ve already donated, meitaki ma’ata! If you’re able to share our page or chip in again, we’d be so grateful. Let’s rally together and make this dream a reality.
Temaeva Nui is more than a performance — it’s a celebration of who we are. Let’s go all the way!
Click, share, donate — and let the rhythm carry us forward.
