Year 7 and 8 Camp

$110 of $18,000 goal
Given by 6 generous donors in 12 weeks

Royal Road School would like to send a group of Year 7 and 8 Senior School students to Outdoor Pursuits Camp in Tongariro.

Nationwide

OPC Tongariro is located in a beautiful wilderness area of the Central North Island adjacent to the Tongariro National Park. This lends itself to many academic learning opportunities, as the camp has a wide variety of environments: bush, desert, volcanic lakes, caves, stream, waterfalls, mountain/snow and swamp.

The camp focuses on self-leadership/organisation, teamwork, adventure, challenge and is aimed at increasing personal confidence and awareness through achievement, group work and fun, whilst learning skills used in the outdoors. These activities are ones that we are unable to provide in the class/school environment and ones the students are unlikely to experience in their backyard. Activities during the week could include: life and survival skills, trust and team building activities, kayaking, Canadian canoeing, rock climbing, caving, abseiling, alpine hiking, snow activities, tramping, low ropes course, high ropes course, tubing and an overnight expedition in the great outdoors.

These are some of the reasons children have given for going to OPC.

We should go:

• to gain confidence;

• to learn new skills;

• to discover new things about ourselves;

• to learn life saving tips;

• to learn teamwork;

• because we are responsible;

• because we all try our hardest to be the best we can be;

• for the rewarding feeling;

• to get out of our comfort zone;

• to interact with our peers;

• to face our fears;

• to bring out the real ‘me’;

• to challenge ourselves;

• to have a break from school and home;

• to make friends.

Thank you for your donation. Without your help, the children would not be able to have this amazing experience.
