“You can’t mothball a giraffe” – Support Orana Wildlife Park as we activate our Recovery Plan

Christchurch, Canterbury

Orana Wildlife Park is staring down a $4.1m funding shortfall... without financial underpinning our reserves will be exhausted by Easter 2027.

Since 2024 (following public allegations, independent investigations & targeted recommendations), Orana has worked diligently to strengthen systems, standards, animal care, veterinary capability, team culture & organisational foundations to expected standards & build a clear, achievable & exciting vision for our future.

This progress has given us a very realistic understanding of what it truly costs to operate a modern, safe & accredited wildlife park.

Orana has employed a full time, dedicated Fundraising & Partnerships Manager to focus on implementing & growing a comprehensive funding plan. It will take time, & our costs won't take a break while we activate the plan. As Orana's CEO, Rachel Haydon says, "You can't mothball a giraffe", so while we activate our recovery plan we urgently need help from our community to 'bridge the gap' in our funding requirements. This will help ensure we continue to deliver exceptional care for our animals & meet our core operating costs.

Any amount you can give will be very much appreciated, & make a real difference.
