By supporting Community Energy Action’s Curtain Bank, you’re helping families get the support they need to create a warm, healthy home.

Christchurch, Canterbury

Together with Genesis, we can create warm healthy homes, and we’d love your support to ensure we can continue helping Kiwis in need across Canterbury. Donate now and Genesis will match donations made to Community Energy Action and our counterparts Habitat for Humanity - Northern, and Sustainability Trust - Wellington, between 28 April 2024 - 27 June 2024 up to the total value of $100,000.

Community Energy Action (CEA) is a charitable trust committed to creating healthy homes, with a focus on keeping the most vulnerable households in our communities warm. With your support, we provide free or discounted insulation, upcycled curtains, and independent energy advice to help create warm healthy homes.

Since 1995, our Christchurch Curtain Bank has been gathering pre-owned curtains and transforming these into new ones for around 400 homes every year – assisting an estimated 10,000 households to date. All donated curtains are resized for customers to properly fit their windows and lined for extra warmth if needed. The upcycling of curtains also reduces waste going to landfill, as the decomposition of curtains in landfill release methane, a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change.

In addition to the Curtain Bank, we provide energy services such as in-home energy advice, effective low-cost energy efficiency interventions, insulation and heating grants, and LED downlight replacement.

About us

Community Energy Action is a Christchurch-based Canterbury charitable trust committed to providing warm, dry and healthy homes for all.

We provide insulation and heating and energy advice to homes across Canterbury and the West Coast.

Use of funds

Your donation will aid in covering material costs and operational expenses that are essential for running the Curtain Bank. Together we can help kiwi families keep their homes warm.
