  • Great Progress!

      20 January 2024

We've been absolutely thrilled with the progress we've made so far. This is a massive project, being done on the smell of an oily rag, so we greatly appreciate all of the donations and help that we've received so far. This is the plan we're working to:

Phase 1 includes interior remediation and cleaning. It also includes placing a tarpaulin over the open roof area temporarily.

Phase 2 includes repair of the open roof area and framing. We will progress along that side of the roof as far as our limited budget will allow. The area has extensive water damage. Our minimum aim is to make the area waterproof and to support the structure to prevent serious collapse. If budget allows, we will paint at least, the most exposed sections of the church exterior.

We'd like to acknowledge our sponsor Triple C Contractors who have been absolutely amazing! The restoration project could not have got this far without them and for that we are deeply grateful. Check out these guys at: www.triplec.co.nz.

If you're interested in being a sponsor or contributing to the restoration works, please contact Ted Wright. Check out our Facebook page for the latest updates: https://www.facebook.com/zionchurchparirau

Whanau, this is history in the making!

  • Lots of progress at the church

Lot's has been happening down at the church! To do the restoration work, we needed our own water supply. This was installed last month, which has allowed for the intensive cleaning work to take place. It also provides emergency water in case of fire.

For all those who have donated towards the restoration. This is part of what you've paid for, and we thank you!

  • Making more progress

A Trust hui was held on Saturday where new members were elected. Our official photographer, Derk Schoemaker was on hand to record the moment (photo below).

There was a buzz of excitement as the Chair of the Parirau Church Restoration Committee, Ted Wright, reported to the Trust, our first sponsor 'Triple C Contractors’, who reached out a few weeks ago to offer their help (thanks to people sharing of our posts on Facebook). They have kindly donated their assistance in the restoration of our heritage church, providing guidance, material and resources. We are extremely thrilled and grateful for their very kind offer. We will update you all once our joint plan is completed.

Thank you whānau (friends and family) for all your support to date. We are proud to announce we have raised enough funds to move forward with the remedial repairs and pathwork to make the church weatherproof.

We have developed a Maintenance Schedule, of which this work is outlined as Phase One. We will be posting updates with photos over the next few months to show you our progress. If you’d like to be involved, please contact us.
