This page has been set up to help Paula access unfunded drugs to offer hope and relieve his symptoms.
Manawatu / Whanganui
Paula is an extraordinary 18 year old young man whose spirit shines brightly even in adversity.
Recently diagnosed with Grade 4 Glioblastoma Multiforme brain cancer, Paula’s journey has taken a challenging turn, yet he remains a beacon of strength and hope for family and friends. He comes from a loving family, blessed with an amazing mum and four adoring sisters. Tragically, Paula lost his father (Ben) to cancer in 2021. At just 15 years old, rather than retreating into grief, he stepped up as the strong male figure his family needed, embodying resilience and love.
Before his diagnosis, Paula was vibrant and full of life, attending Palmerston North Boys High School where he excelled in Rugby Union. He also proudly represented Manawatu in Rugby League and Volleyball.
The news of his diagnosis has understandably devastated those who know him but Paula's warmth and generosity have always brought joy to those around him. Sadly, his recent journey through chemotherapy and radiation has been unsuccessful.
Now, to give Paula some hope and relieve his symptoms including vision loss, he needs an unfunded drug that must be started immediately.
Those who have been touched by Paula and his family’s kindness know how special this family is. Now, it’s our turn to support and show gratitude for the light they bring into our lives.
Let’s come together to help Paula and his family during this challenging time, offering our love and assistance in any way possible.
I am a friend of the Matafahi whanau. Funds will be paid to his mother Nia
Providing the potentially life extending but unfunded drug (Avastin) and to help with the cost of taking care of this amazing young man.
Update ❤️ 6 November 2024
Hi everyone,
There has been such an outpouring of support for Paula and we are so appreciative. We have had some messages from loved ones and complete strangers who are doing their own fundraising and would like us to keep the page running so they can donate as much as possible once they have collected the funds. This will, of course, help tremendously and so we will leave the page up. Thank you 💕
Currently, we are not 100% sure of how many rounds of treatment Paula will need as it depends on how his body responds. All funds will go directly to however many rounds of treatment he requires. Any extra money will go to support Paula to lead a full life. This includes making sure he gets the best possible 24 hour care.
Paula, Nia and the girls are so grateful for everyone’s support, from close friends and family to people that have just seen a need and given without a second thought. There are beautiful humans in this world. Thank you 💕💕
