To assist rescued women in Chiclayo Peru to start a cottage industry. To provide the resources for the start-up
Taranaki
Our trip to Peru is to assist women who have been brought into the women's refuge. We will help them to establish a cottage industry, so they can sell things they have made. We have been invited to teach women to sew and knit to establish this.
Janice and I will be hosted by the Rotary Club in Chiclayo and have planned our trip for August 10 - 31. We are taking women's necessities including 46kgs of Bras, reusable sanitary pads, etc for these women, some of them have nothing other than one set of clothes. We are also taking resources, some educational games (in spanish) for diversional therapy, plus patterns, plans and fabric etc. We have reading glasses to assist with near tasks and this will make up another 46kgs of luggage. Our personal clothes make up the balance of 7kg hand luggage.
My profession is a Dispensing Optician so I have reading glasses to assist with near tasks. We will work with the women to ensure they run the program and believe that the women only need assistance to begin and they will be very capable of running this long term. - Hence a hand up not a hand-out!
The Chiclayo Rotary Club will host us, ensure of safety and provide transport once in the city, and also be our translators. We are incredible grateful to them so all funds raised will go into providing resources to assist the women.
