Percy will be home tomorrow!
10 September 2023Persephone had her second surgery on her hip last Wednesday. The initial plan was to toggle the hip into place. However, she had suffered significant damage to the structural integrity surrounding the hip. This meant they opted to shave down the ball of her femoral head, and suture this into place as close as possible to the hip joint. This is potentially a better outcome anyhow, as cats with toggled hips are likely to get develop early onset arthritis, and would go onto having this procedure as the solution. Essentially, we're skipping a step! Cats can go on to lead a normal and healthy life like this, will a full range of motion in the hip, meaning she will be able to run, jump and climb as normal if her healing goes well. She many just have a bit of a funky step, as its common to have a gate abnormality after this.
She has been eating and excreting nicely, and has even begun hopping around on her knee, which is amazing, meaning she can easily adjust herself into a comfortable position. She will be cage bound for six weeks, so we are lucky to have the neighbors large dog crate which we have snugged out with blankets.
As some of you may know, I am a Herbalist, so I've ordered in some different herbal and homeopathic formulas to assist in her healing, which are safe to take alongside the analgesic medications she is also on.
We are so looking forward to having her home! Miso most of all.
Many thanks again x
