Raising funds for the purchase of personal care and sanitary items for the women who access the Te Puke Foodbank.
Bay of Plenty
Last year I spent several hours working at the Empowerment NZ Trust Foodbank in Te Puke. One of the constant needs they have for the women who come into the centre is that of being able to include sanitary and personal care items in their food boxes e.g. sanitary pads, tampons, shampoo.
As we women know, these items can be hideously expensive when you're on a limited budget and especially if you have more than one women in the home to buy for. It can also be uncomfortable for women to ask for these items, so I would like to see the Foodbank be able to automatically add a packet of sanitary products or bottle of shampoo to each food box.
I launched this project to raise funds that will be passed on to Empowerment NZ specifically for this purpose. It was a great success and I would like to be able to provide the same again this year. It was very satisfying to be able to personally pop those items into a food parcel.
I've called the project SISTERHOOD100 because if 100 women can donate $5.00 each we will reach our target and make life more comfortable and less embarrassing for these women.
Here is a Stuff article highlighting the issue here in New Zealand.
Thank you for your donation and for making a difference to other sisters in need.
Funds raised will be given directly to Judy Abrahams, one of the Trustees of Empowerment NZ Trust.
I am a former volunteer with the above organisation and still have strong relationships with staff and volunteers there. This is my local community.
The funds will buy sanitary items and shampoo for women who access the Te Puke Foodbank parcels. Surplus funds will be passed to them in their entirety.
