Was going to do shave for cure through school but decided I wanted to do a personal fundraiser for loved one recently diagnosed with cancer
Auckland
For the last couple years I have been thinking about participating in shave for a cure but backed out due to my hair being a big part of my identity, with me constantly dying and cutting it. This year is different however, after months of sickness and lots of tests, my family member has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. So when shave for a cure was advertised at school, it was no longer an idea that just seemed like it would be fun but an idea that would mean and help my family so much.
Family member, my dad.
The money will be spent on lung cancer treatment, radiation $1500, foundation testing $3000 and immunotherapy (not sure which type) if needed which is up to $100,000.
Massive Thank You to All involved 5 March 2024
Unlike my original plan, I shaved my head a bit sooner than I had intended but on Waitangi day there seemed like no better time. Surrounded by family and the significance of the day itself, it was a perfect time to not just acknowledge and show awareness of those around me but also to have my own fresh start for 2024. I personally would like to thank all of those who not only donated but also spread our story. The support has ranged much wider than just friends and family, it has traveled across the world and for that I am extremely grateful. It wasn’t an easy thing to tell people and share what is going on but it has been more than worth it just from the words of support and encouragement we have received from others. I could never do justice to how grateful me and my family are, all I can say is thank you all so much!
