Bethany is only 18 and battling Grade 4 Glioblastoma, brain cancer. We need funds for treatment options to extend her life.
Canterbury
Imagine sitting in a university exam and feeling a strange sensation in your leg. So strange, there was concern and a visit to the GP. Examinations led the doctor to consult a neurologist, being sent straight to ED and admitted into hospital.
This is what happened to 18yr old Bethany in June 2023.
Bethany was an active, competitive swimmer and lifeguard who only had a few months at university when her life changed in an instant.
A lesion in her brain was suspected, with surgery following soon after. While it was a successful resection, it also left Bethany's mobility severely impacted.
Bethany was diagnosed with Grade 4 Glioblastoma, an aggressive and incurable brain cancer, which is unusual in young females.
Bethany has bravely endured many tests, 6 weeks of radiotherapy, multiple rounds of chemotherapy and immunotherapy. However, a recent MRI has showed the tumour is back. Her medical team said it is now inoperable and offered no new treatment options. Current treatment is continuing, though unsure for how long.
Bethany deserves all the chances to live. It is so cruel her journey into adult life has been taken away so abruptly.
HOW CAN YOU HELP? We are seeking your help to raise funds to go towards Bethany's further treatments outside of Christchurch, in the private sector (Keytruda), that could potentially save her life. This may include a clinical trial overseas.
Thank you, for your heart and generosity, it is very much appreciated.
I am a work colleague of Bethany's father, offering support to help the family.
Currently funds are being raised towards alternative treatments (keytruda), mobility equipment and other to assist with Bethany's day-to-day life.
If this proves to be unsuccessful then we will look at clinical trials overseas in which funds will then be needed for the trials, travel and accommodation
We will provide an update if we need to look into overseas options and trial
Funds are being paid to Bethany's parents
Thank you 7 June 2024
Thank you to all who supported Bethany and her fight.
