Hayley, a 31 year old single Mum, has terminal cervical cancer. We are raising funds to help her and her daughter.
Canterbury
On New Year's Eve, at 31 years old, my little sister Hayley saw in the New Year in the hospital with the devastating news that she has stage 4 cervical cancer. Sadly, Hayley's cancer is terminal. Her life expectancy is 6 months to 2 years. Her cancer has had a huge impact on her body so she is very unwell and is no longer able to work. She is currently undergoing intensive chemotherapy to try and prolong her life.
Hayley first went to her doctor with symptoms in January 2019, almost a year prior to her diagnosis. Her doctor said that because of her age it wouldn't be anything serious. Hayley went back to her doctor numerous times over the following year as her symptoms increased and worsened but she was constantly brushed off by her. It wasn't until she ended up in hospital with kidney failure on Boxing Day 2019, that she was taken seriously. Her cancer has now spread to the surrounding areas, liver and lymph nodes.
Hayley is an amazing single Mum to my gorgeous 11 year old niece. She and her daughter are best friends who do absolutely everything together. This news is having a devastating impact on them both. I know times are tough at the moment and there are lots of people out there struggling but we are so grateful for any donations received.
Hayley would like to get her story out there in the hope that it may help save even just one person from going through what she is. If you have symptoms or aren't feeling right go to your doctor. Don't take no for an answer. Age is not a good enough reason to not get the tests you might need. If they don't listen to you get a second opinion. Don't wait until it is too late. Life is precious.
Hayley is my little sister
Money raised will go directly to Hayley to help relieve the financial burden this is having on her, as well as to help her create nice memories for her daughter, and the eventual funeral costs.
Another thank you and an update on Hayley 27 January 2021
We would like to thank you all again for all your generous donations, kind messages and support. Hayley's treatment was stopped at the end of September due to a bad reaction during her last chemotherapy session. Hayley had a scan late last year and found out the cancer has spread further. Doctor's have said she now has 1-2 months to live. Your generous donations relieved some financial pressure and she was able to get out and make lots of memories with her daughter. In October they enjoyed a week long trip with some family around parts of the bottom of the South Island, ending with a nice stay in Queenstown (see pic) and lots of fun filled activities. She is still hoping to be well enough to do whale watching in Kaikoura with her daughter. Thank you again for all your amazing support!
