Remembering Sandesh Singh, who tragically lost his life in Queenstown. Help us bring him home to Jammu, India, for his final rites. 🕯️🙏
Queenstown, Otago
Sandesh Singh was originally from Jammu, India. Around six months ago, he came to New Zealand on a work visa, hoping to work hard, build a better future and support his family. He was living in Queenstown and working for a commercial cleaning company.
Sadly, in the early hours of Sunday, 4 October 2026, everything changed. At approximately 3:54am, emergency services were called to a serious single-vehicle crash at Kawarau Falls, Queenstown, on State Highway 6/Kingston Road between Peninsula Road and Boyd Road.
There were four people in the vehicle. Emergency crews from Queenstown and Frankton attended the scene and worked to rescue the occupants.
Tragically, Sandesh Singh lost his life at the scene. The other three occupants were injured, with two reported to have serious injuries and one critically injured.
Sandesh had come to New Zealand only months earlier with dreams of creating a better future. His sudden death has left his family, friends, colleagues and community deeply heartbroken.
His family is in Jammu, India, thousands of kilometres away, waiting for him to return home for the final time so they can see him once more and perform his final rites surrounded by loved ones.
The exact cause of the crash has not been publicly confirmed, and the circumstances remain under investigation.
Rest in Peace, Sandesh Singh. 🕯️🙏
May his soul rest in peace.
Sandesh was my close friend, and we studied together in India. I have known him for around 10 years. We both were in Queenstown, New Zealand, and remained close friends.
Funds will help bring Sandesh Singh’s body home to Jammu, India, covering repatriation, documentation, funeral arrangements, and related costs. Any remaining funds will be credited to his mother to support her during this difficult time.
