Horse Sanctuary for abused and neglected horses!!!

This is Colonel a Thoroughbred gelding in New Zealand whom like many horses end up being neglected, abused or heading to the slaughter yards. This poor boy was rescued, and brought to our Horse Sanctuary where he will receive Veterinary care, and ongoing tender loving care to rehabilitate him, and the many others that have been rescued or are awaiting rescue. When colonel arrived he was emaciated, anemic, had rain scold and rain rot and covered from head to foot in two different forms of lice. He also struggled to eat from his teeth ( hooks and ramps being so large that he couldnt chew as well as olcers throughout his mouth. Colonel had a long way to go, not only to be treated to remove a serious case of lice, rain scold , rain rot, hair loss, worms, poor feet, shocking teeth but also to gain the necessary weight needed for a full recovery which takes time and it's a slow process.There is much more that many rescue horses and the other horses coming into the sanctuary need including veterinary care, hard feeding to help them gain the necessary weight needed for a full recovery as well as, supplemented minerals, vitamins, farrier work on their feet, Equine Dentistry as most horses coming in are struggling to eat from the severity of the ulcers and enlarged Hooks and ramps through sheer neglect. Dentistry work can be 6 monthly visits as only 3mm can be rasped per visit until their teeth hey are at a satisfactory size for them to chew and eat properly. We are raising donations to help us help these poor horses that deserve love and around the clock care and a second chance at life, and we have been very successful in doing this. Though we have had some very upsetting cases come in and it's sad when we have to make a decision to end their suffering when all attempts to help have failed. But it would"nt be possible without your help and every $1 counts for there full recovery and rehabilitation. We specialize in rescuing Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds but we have been known to take on miniature ponies and other severe cases that need rescuing and we go by a case by case basis.
