Please help my son get educated correctly, you can save his life.

Waikato

Becoming more aware of the term “dyslexia” We have decided as family that home schooling Diondre will be more beneficial for him to reach his full potential.

Diondre comes from a large family, my husband and I have 7 children together in total. Throughout Diondre’s life he has ear problems and lived with dyslexia. He is 12 years old and has a reading/speech mind as a 6 year old.

Teaching Diondre in a way a Dyslexic person can benefit from comes with a hefty price and unfortunately not government funded, the dyslexic test alone is between $500-$1200 dollars and tutors can range from $100 and up. I want to be able to understand my child, we can both learn together, with hours of research and weeks of late nights I am confident I know what is best for my child, so I sent in my application for exemption to start homeschooling him.

Raising money to help with purchasing homeschooling curriculums, and resources is the way I have to go about this. Highly recommended - agility with sound Ltd, NZ based programme, cost $300 for level 1 reading kit and there is 8 levels, this is just for reading subject, there’s still maths, science and other subjects. There are also online programmes you can purchase to help learn along with the resources you have. Also purchases for a homeschool set up such as office/ desk supplies, tablet/laptop, printers, ink, books, whiteboards ect.

Diondre is a polite, caring and loving boy but at the end of the day when he comes home is filled with frustration, anger and sadness which he lets off at home because this is his safe place. My son has fallen deep in the cracks, please help me pull him out and give him the education he deserves, he will be with me one on one everyday, I can teach him in a way that fits him, have him in a environment here at home where he can have the space to start again back to basic but in a different teaching method which will benefit him to reach his full potential, without feeling ashamed in front of his peers.

It’s important to me that I fix this problem before he hits teens and adulthood I don’t want him to be a victim to the system because we all know what will then. Children that are left behind in the system will find it hard to come out of as teens adulthood, If schools cant cover this as an essential need then what hope does my son have? Please help me, help him.
